Radiance and Dusters

“Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans” and, just like that, everything changes, but I don’t want to lose myself in the process.

Although I’ve worked from home for the past few years, I usually had appointments or I would take my laptop and journal to a local Starbucks and use it as my alternative office. I’d have lunch with girlfriends. Either way, I got out.  

Given our current state of affairs, it’s very tempting just to stay in sweats, put off a shower and even put exercise on hold.  
I think it is more important than ever to stick to the routines we are used to, the best way we can.  
So I find it’s the little things that matter.

I’ve also found this is a great time to experiment a bit, try new things with my makeup and clothing, because, hey, if it doesn’t work, I’m the only one who sees it and my kids and husband most likely won’t know the difference anyway.

I think it’s fair to say we all have leggings of some sort in our closets, other than for the gym. I am only comfortable if I wear them with a longer tunic  and that’s why I loved the suggestion from Linda Waldon, at www.lindawaldon.com, to re-purpose some of the clothes in our closet.  

As an example, I have several dresses with buttons or snaps down the front that I very rarely wear. Linda’s suggestion was to wear them as dusters over your basic leggings.  As you can see below, I paired one of my dresses with a tank and was very comfortable all day.

And makeup, what to do about makeup when we are on lock down?

On some days I take the natural approach because I feel this is a great time to just let your skin breathe but, on other days, I do want a little extra, especially if I have a Zoom meeting scheduled – and a virtual cocktail hour is always possible too!

While I’ve enjoyed using the products from Simple Beauty Minerals for the past couple of years, this time at home has allowed me to experiment and play with them in ways I hadn’t tried before.  I’ve also had the time to watch a few of Lisa’s tutorials that I had missed.
I think one of the best things about this product-line is how most of the products can multitask.  

I started with the Bright Eyes Pink Concealer around my eye area. It goes on very light and really adds a very pretty highlight to the area. I used a bit under my brows as well, I think it gives a bit more light to the area.

I then used the Natural Cover Mineral Foundation.  It was easy to find my perfect color by using Lisa’s on-line tool, the foundation shade-finder.  I also ordered a couple of samples to confirm my decision.  It’s so easy to apply and another reason I love this product is that you can use it very lightly and layer it as needed.

I used the Ballet Slipper Radiance Powder as my blush, additional highlighter and powder.  I found it to be just enough to enhance the very natural look I was going for.

The Berry Blush Crayon is my favorite shade and occasionally I have used this as my blush with and/or without makeup, but for this occasion I only used it on my lips for a bit of color and even more important to me is that it acts as a great moisturizer.

I could have stopped there but I then took just a drop of the Calming Oil, rubbed it on my hands and then lightly patted it on my cheek bones and neck. A little of this oil goes a long way. It adds a nice glow and the fragrance reminds me of being at a spa.

So, while we are in challenging times right now, eventually we will all find our ‘new normal’ and I for one would like to make a habit of trying new things.  
As I mentioned earlier, sometimes the little things can make a big difference in how we feel about ourselves.

  1. Hi Sherri! I love getting your emails especially now! I’m sitting here in my sweats, and missing getting dressed up and putting eyeliner on.
    For you, I am going to do some exercise, get dressed with leggings and a tunic, and put some makeup on even if I have no place to go. It will feel wonderful.
